The Wangaratta Turf Club is set to have its best Racing, Food and Wine Carnival yet, thanks to support from the Andrews Labor Government. Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes announced that as part of a $100,000 funding package, the Labor Government will provide over $30,000 from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund Raceday Attraction Program to support the event.

The two-day Carnival will showcase the best of north-eastern Victoria’s food, wine and artisanal produce and feature Saturday twilight racing, followed by the annual Wangaratta Cup on Sunday.

Off the track, a dedicated family entertainment area will feature a giant water park, Kelly Sports activities and a petting zoo, as well as a Fashions on the Field competition with $4,000 in prizes, live music by local artists and an opportunity for visitors to meet jockeys and trainers from across the state.

To ensure the carnival is accessible to all racegoers, a return shuttle bus service will be available between Wangaratta and Beechworth, Bright, Bundalong, Melbourne, Myrtleford and Yarrawonga.

The event is also supported by $57,000 from the Wangaratta Turf Club, $8000 from Country Racing Victoria and $5000 of in-kind support from local businesses.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has provided over $3.4 million to support nine infrastructure projects and 15 raceday events for the Wangaratta Turf Club. This includes the $1.9 million investment in the Wangaratta Master Plan Stage Two Development. Since opening in October 2018, the new multi-purpose facility has had more than 7,000 people through the doors for a range of conferences, functions and events.

This investment by the Labor Government at the Wangaratta Turf Club has not only provided wider economic benefits to the region but also improved the race day experience for local racegoers and tourists.

The racing industry in the Hume region generates more than $217 million for the Victorian economy each year and sustains more than 1,800 fulltime equivalent jobs locally.
