BRINGING MORE VISITORS AND GROWTH TO BENALLA

The Andrews Labor Government is supporting Benalla Foreshore to become a year-round destination for visitors and locals with work underway on a cultural hub that will house a visitor centre, cinema and Ned Kelly Museum.

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes visited to mark the beginning of construction.

The project is funded through the Victorian Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund and through the Benalla Foreshore project. Once complete the centre will include a 64-seat cinema, the Visitor Information Centre and the Benalla Costume and Kelly Museum located together at the same site.

The Visitor Information Centre will be redeveloped and expanded to improve the layout and provide a better experience for visitors. An internal building fit-out of the Benalla Costume and Kelly Museum will enhance the display space for the nationally significant Ned Kelly sash and cell and other historic memorabilia.

The project will also include a café with an outdoor dining area overlooking Lake Benalla as well as a new parents’ room and toilets for visitors to the foreshore and splash park.

The Benalla foreshore project, supported by a Victorian Government grant of $2 million through the Building Works Program, consists of several upgrades including a new climbing boulder playground, seating, lighting and car parking for visitors to Lake Benalla.

This investment builds on the recently completed Benalla splash park on the Lake Benalla foreshore which features fountains, water jets and a family-friendly area, along with an all ages and abilities playground.

The Regional Infrastructure Fund is part of the Government’s flagship Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund.

The Fund is key to the Government’s more than $36 billion investment across regional and rural Victoria since 2015. Information about the Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund can be found at rdv.vic.gov.au/rjif
