The Andrews Labor Government is providing $100,000 to local communities across Victoria to host fun and free educational activities and events during this year’s Children’s Week celebrations.

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes announced Benalla Rural City Council will receive $700 to host activities for children and their families during the annual festivities.

Thousands of children, aged up to 12, are expected to take part in Children’s Week between 24 October 24 to 1 November.

The grants will go towards free activities such as online art exhibitions, outdoor or messy play activities, dance workshops, arts and crafts, musical and story-telling performances, drawing competitions and picnics.

Grant recipients are creating innovative ways to safely share their events with their communities in line with the coronavirus restrictions in their areas, and with consideration of the ongoing bushfire recovery work in Victoria. Online activities will be held with cyber-safety in mind and in-person activities will adhere to COVID-Safe requirements.

The theme for Children’s Week 2020 celebrates the right of all children to choose their own friends and safely connect with others, based on Article 15 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
