DELIVERING BETTER PUBLIC AGED CARE FACILITIES IN MANSFIELD

The Andrews Labor Government is getting on with ensuring older Victorians in the High Country get the high-quality aged care they deserve, with a modern redevelopment of two public aged care facilities in Mansfield.

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes today announced the Victorian Budget 2022/23 will deliver the redevelopment of Buckland House and the Bindaree Retirement Centre at Mansfield District Hospital.

The project will completely transform the ageing 30-bed Buckland House and refurbish the Bindaree Retirement Centre’s 42 beds – delivering a bigger, better and safer home for residents.

The improved facilities in Mansfield will provide an environment that is dementia friendly and better suited to supporting mental health and the complex care needs of older Victorians.

Residents will be accommodated in single bedrooms with a private ensuite, in settings that promote dignity, privacy and independence.

The design includes using ‘small households’ with their own dedicated kitchen, dining, lounge and break-out sitting areas.

The project is part of the Regional and Rural Public Sector Residential Aged Care Services Revitalisation Strategy, to modernise ageing facilities which are home to some of our most vulnerable older Victorians.

Regional public sector residential aged care services play a vital role in supporting access to appropriate services, including for vulnerable older Victorians with complex support needs.

We’re investing more than $146 million in the Budget to redevelop and upgrade public sector residential aged care services including new and refurbished aged care facilities at Camperdown Hospital and Orbost Regional Health, as well as detailed design and planning work to redevelop Hawthorn Village in Bright and the Heywood Nursing Home in the state’s south-west.
