Rushworth residents will have easier access to vital local services like healthcare and education, thanks to a funding boost from the Victorian Government that will deliver a new community vehicle.

Member for Northern Victorian Jaclyn Symes announced through the Government’s Flexible Local Transport Solutions program, a new eight seat van for Rushworth’s Community Taxi program will help vulnerable members of the community attend appointments and access important services.

By providing transport solutions where services aren’t currently available, the Community Taxi program aims to support better health outcomes and reduce social isolation for residents who are unable to access a private car or use public transport.

The Government’s investment of $64,850, in partnership with $11,940 from the Rushworth Community House, will expand this important transport service which currently sees volunteers use their own vehicles.

The Community Taxi trial is also supporting regional employment by creating a new part-time program coordinator role to work closely with volunteers and the community.

The Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program provides funding for local transport initiatives, services and infrastructure across regional Victoria – delivered by the Department of Transport which works with local transport forums, regional partnerships, local councils and community organisations to identify and deliver local transport opportunities.
