LABOR FUNDS MAJOR UPGRADE TO AVENEL PRESCHOOL
Labor Upper House Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes, today announced Avenel Preschool will undergo a $526,000 upgrade and expansion to provide greater access for local families.
Visiting the centre today, Ms Symes said the Andrews Labor Government funding of $350,000 would see the kindergarten expanded to accommodate increasing enrolments and a range of early years services, including maternal and child health and wellbeing outreach programs.
The upgraded facility is intended to become part of a precinct for the small country community of Avenel, further strengthening the community and providing increased support to vulnerable families in the area.
The works will provide a dedicated planning and administration space and multipurpose meeting room.
“We know that high-quality early years education and care are vital to giving our children the best start in life, which is why we are investing in first-rate early learning facilities in Avenel,” Ms Symes said.
“As a working mother who has been reliant on childcare, I am absolutely passionate about the provision of quality childcare options in country Victoria.
“It’s fantastic that Avenel Preschool will benefit from $350,000 in Labor Government funding to upgrade their facility.
“This exciting upgrade will ensure Avenel families can access quality early childhood services to help their children get ready for school and ready for life.
“We know that high-quality early years education and care are vital to giving our children the best start in life, which is why Labor is investing in first-rate early learning facilities.”
Research shows that children who have a stimulating, supportive and healthy start to life are more likely to do well later in life, while children who attend kinder score between 10 and 20 points higher on NAPLAN tests.
It will mean parents can access improved parenting support and Maternal and Child Health Services, as well as higher quality and more inclusive kindergartens.
