MANGALORE AIRPORT UPGRADE SET TO TAKE OFF
Managalore Airport is undergoing an extensive upgrade thanks to a $327,450 investment from the Victorian Labor Government, Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes, announced today.
Ms Symes said the investment will ensure the airport continues to provide Northern Victoria with aviation services while also strengthening the airport’s position as a key pilot-training site.
Ms Symes said the funding had been approved by Minister for Regional Development, Jaala Pulford, and is a further example of the Labor Government’s support for country Victoria.
Ms Symes said the upgrade will secure 60 existing jobs and continue to generate direct export revenue of approximately $15 million per annum from pilot training activities once the project is complete.
“This is an exciting project as it will help Mangalore to attract new business and job opportunities to the area, as the airport builds its student base and more services are required to support the growing training facility,” Ms Symes said.
“The $800,000 upgrade project includes resurfacing more than 91,000 square metres of runway and resealing 26,000 square meters of the main aircraft apron. The project is expected to be completed by mid-May.
“Access to well maintained, modern airport facilities like Mangalore Airport helps to position regional Victoria for future growth, creates local jobs and reduces the cost of regional businesses to connect with customers, suppliers and markets.”
Ms Symes said the Labor Government is proud to fund the project as part of its $500 million Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund, which supports initiatives across regional and rural Victoria that build critical infrastructure, create jobs, and help support new and emerging industries.
“The Victorian Government is committed to investing in infrastructure projects that support regional economies to grow,” Ms Symes said.
“With the support of the Victorian Government, Mangalore Airport is being developed as an internationally competitive training facility for the aviation industry.
“The Victorian Government is proud to support the upgrade of Mangalore Airport, which is the perfect base for trainee pilots to build their confidence and skills.”
Mangalore Airport is located approximately 100 kilometres north east of Melbourne and close to major transport routes, making it ideally situated for domestic and international organisations seeking first class pilot training facilities.
