NEW FISHING PLATFORM FOR SEYMOUR

A new fishing platform has been built on the banks of the Goulburn River in Seymour to improve access for families and make it easier for everyone to wet a line.

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes joined the Victorian Fisheries Authority and recreational fishing stakeholders at Goulburn Park today to celebrate the official opening of the new platform.

The fishing platform has been funded as part of the second phase of the Andrews Labor Government’s Target One Million plan to get more Victorians fishing, more often in more places.

The new specially designed fishing platform has been built by the Mitchell Shire who matched a $100,000 grant from Target One Million’s Better Fishing Facilities Fund, which has funded similar infrastructure projects for anglers right across the state.

The platform is a multi-level design to cater for height changes in the Goulburn River through the year, creating an accessible fishing spot for families and people with a wide variety of physical abilities, in a location that is otherwise steep and difficult to get down to the water.

The platform’s inbuilt rod holders will be appreciated by fishers whilst trying to catch Murray cod, golden perch, trout, redfin and carp.

The platform’s location in Goulburn Park is ideal given it is in the middle of town, a short walk from the holiday park and close to a playground and toilets, that will soon be upgraded thanks to further funding from the Labor Government.
