The Mansfield District Racing Club is gearing up for a huge day of country racing this Mansfield Cup Day, thanks to a joint funding package worth more than $135,000.

The Andrews Labor Government is providing more than $18,000 from its Victorian Racing Industry Fund Raceday Attraction Program to support the race meeting on Saturday 6 April 2019.

The Labor Government has also provided over $11,000 for the Mansfield District Racing Club to install a new winning post, upgrade the club’s betting ring and construct a new carpark and carpark fencing.

To accompany the time-honoured Mansfield Cup, the Mansfield District Racing club will launch the “Buller Diamond Race”, an open handicap with a total prize pool of over $35,000, the highest prize pool on offer for a picnic race in Australia.

The raceday will also feature the 2019 National Equine Art Prize and Exhibition which will celebrate the High Country horse, to help commemorate over 160 years of country racing.

There will be a host of fun attractions for all racegoers, including a food court featuring food and wine from the region, live music, a photobooth, merchandise giveaways and sport activities for kids. Complimentary shuttle buses will also operate between Mansfield CBD and the racecourse to ensure patrons travel safely to and from the event.

The Mansfield District Racing Club is contributing more than $36,000 towards the event while Country Racing Victoria has provided $28,500 with $7,500 to be contributed through in-kind support.

The Club also contributed more than $22,000 for the infrastructure upgrades while Country Racing Victoria with Racing Victoria provided more than $11,000.

Since 2014, the government has approved nearly $300,000 to support eight thoroughbred racing events and eight infrastructure projects for the Mansfield District Racing Club.

The racing industry in the Hume region generates $217.9 million for the Victorian economy annually and helps sustain more than 1,900 full time equivalent jobs in the region.
