One of Seymour’s busiest intersections has received a vibrant and colourful makeover, thanks to $152,840 from the Andrew’s Labor Government’s Pick My Project initiative.

Minister for Regional Development and Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes today officially opened the new art installation at the Seymour railway underpass, to acknowledge the hard work of the organisers from Seymour We Want and meet the artists.

The underpass provides a link between Seymour’s north and south – with this project turning what was an unsightly blank concrete canvass into a lively art display incorporating street art and lighting.

The community has been closely engaged throughout the project, so the final artwork features designs that truly represent Seymour, create an ongoing feeling of town pride and a stronger sense of community.

The artwork depicts the region’s best assets including the Goulburn River and wildlife, reflects the local racing and agricultural industries, as well as paying tribute to the town’s rail and military history.

Pick My Project is a Victorian first – a $30 million initiative that put decision making in the hands of Victorians.

The Art Attack on Seymour’s Concrete Canvas project is one of nine successful projects from the Pick My Project initiative in the Goulburn region.

The region received more than $1.48 million in funding through the initiative, after a total of 12,697 votes were cast.

Other successful projects in the Goulburn region include establishment of the Wallan Future Hub, a one-stop help shop for residents; the Bush Bus, a mobile, nature inspired playgroup; and I Wish I’d Asked, a project helping kids and seniors tackle loneliness together.
