The Andrews Labor Government is backing the Benalla Racing Club with funding to improve kitchen and race-day amenities as well as providing a boost to the club’s premier Benalla Gold Cup meeting.

Benalla Racing Club boasts one of the most picturesque courses in Victoria and hosts 10 meetings a year – the Benalla Gold Cup on the Grand Final Eve public holiday has become a family favourite with fashions on the field and a children’s playground adding to the experience.

A $326,000 funding program will see the development of a modern commercial kitchen within the course’s main building, while the old external kitchen will be demolished and replaced with a large new toilet block.

The Labor Government is providing $150,000 from its Victorian Racing Industry Fund to deliver on its election commitment to upgrade the kitchen and toilet facilities while the Benalla Racing Club is pitching in more than $100,000 towards the upgrades. Racing Victoria and Country Racing Victoria are contributing $75,000.

The Government has provided an additional $25,000 from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund – Raceday Attraction Program towards the Benalla Gold Cup meeting, with the club contributing more than $29,000 and Country Racing Victoria, $8,000.

Since December 2014, the Government has approved $826,952 to support 11 infrastructure projects plus 9 race days at Benalla Racing Club.

The racing industry in regional Victoria generates $1.15 billion for the Victorian economy and helps sustain more than 9,700 full time equivalent jobs.
