19 Sep 2017 Whittlesea Review, Whittlesea (General News) MORE men in Broadford and Kilmore will be building new friendships, skills and community connections, thanks to a grant for new Mens Sheds. Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes, last Thursday joined Broadford mens Shed members to announce the $80,000 project would receive $53,814 towards their much needed new shed. $60,000 has also been allocated towards a new $90,000 Mens Shed in Kilmore. The grants from the Victorian Government were supported by inkind support from Mitchell Shire Council. Ms Symes said the new Mens Sheds in Broadford and Kilmore are part of a state-wide $1 million government program. Each of the projects is the result of extensive community consultation and has a plan to build strong partnerships with other organisations. Im delighted the Victorian Government is investing in new Mens Sheds for Broadford and Kilmore, Ms Symes said. Men in Broadford and Kilmore will now have a brand new home where they can get together, work on valuable projects and forge strong ties with other members of their community. Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said the new facilities would enable the Mens Sheds to grow as the community does. Mens Sheds are such wonderful assets that play a vital role in the health and wellbeing of our wider community, Cr Sanderson said. Theyre inclusive, enhance social connection, keep peoples minds and bodies active, and produce some fantastic items that can be shared with our community. Ms Symes also encouraged those wanting to join their local Mens Shed to contact Broadford Mens Shed on 5784 2043 or the Kilmore Mens Shed on 5781 0601.
