Fishing bonanza at Goulburn Park

31 Oct 2018 Seymour Telegraph, Seymour VIC (General News) by Alison OConnor Sundays Vic Fish Kids event has been hailed a raging success, with more than 1500 people flocking to Goulburn Park for the event. Residents were reminded of yesteryear when the old swimming pool was filled with water, before it was stocked with fish for the free clinics that were on offer for children. There was 1130 registrations for the kids fishing clinics, with around 150 of the 500 stocked fish caught by the young anglers. Participants were able to learn how to cast, how to tie knots and what to do with a fish when they caught one. The events were part of the Victorian Governments Target One Million plan to grow participation and get one million anglers by 2020. Labor candidate for Euroa Fionna Deppeler-Morton said it was a fantastic day, and they had already put their hand up to host another event in Seymour next year. It was such a fantastic day, there was people all over the place enjoying the free activities and Goulburn Park looked fantastic, she said. We would like to see it become an annual event in Seymour and weve certainly put our hand up for next year. The good thing about Seymour is the fish didnt have to travel far, which meant they were quite active so the kids caught more fish. Ms Deppeler-Morton said the clinic times were cut down to allow more kids to take part, with 40 rods surrounding the pool at a time. The fish were moved out of the swimming pool and in to the Goulburn River at the end of the day, meaning theres some good fishing to be had at Goulburn Park in the next few weeks.
