New netball court for Euroa

24 Apr 2017 Shepparton News, Shepparton VIC (General News) by Declan Martin BUDGET FOR NEW COMPETITION-CLASS COURT IS COMPLETE WITH ANNOUNCEMENT OF GOVERNMENT FUNDING A state-of-the-art netball court will be built in Euroa after a $100 000 Victorian Government contribution was announced last week. State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes announcement completes the overall budget for the project, including Strathbogie Shire Councils contribution of $50 000 and a community contribution of $63 000, raised following a passionate display of support for the project by businesses and the community. Project driver Kate Petersen has worked on turning this dream into reality for the past two years. Ms Petersen oversaw successful submissions to the council for funding for the project as part of a committee representing Euroas senior and junior football/netball clubs. Ms Petersen highlighted the growing number of netballers across the junior and senior age groups and the need for a competitionclass court and facilities to support them. The project committee has worked closely with shire chief executive Steve Crawcour and asset services director Roy Hetherington, as well as Memorial Oval management committee representatives to ensure all the relevant parties were part of project planning. The government budget planning for netball facilities documents a twostage plan for Euroas facilities, with the provision of a court in stage two and a much needed construction of new change rooms in stage two. Shire mayor Amanda McClaren praised the project and the journey to get to this exciting stage of development. This project is a great example of community consultation, with council working closely with the sporting clubs and committee members involved to ensure the dream of enhancing this fantastic sporting precinct to become a reality, Cr McClaren said. It is great to see significant progress in the promotion of womens sport, particularly in Euroa where more than 100 girls across junior and senior grades are getting out on the court to represent their community.
