Another weekend of cup fever in our city

09 Mar 2018 Wangaratta Chronicle, Wangaratta VIC (General News) RACING will again take centre stage in Wangaratta this weekend, with the Wangaratta Pacing Cup expected to draw a large crowd to Avian Park on Sunday evening. Wangaratta Harness Racing Club honorary secretary Bernadette Costantino said everything was on track for a top evening of trots and entertainment, in a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere. The cup meeting is the clubs premier home event, with racing from 5.50pm until 10pm, together with music from renowned Victorian DJ Steve Bowen, mechanical bull rides, and activities for the kids including face painting, a jumping castle and lolly giveaways. Jaclyn Symes (MLC, Northern Victoria), who attended last weekends Wangaratta Turf Club cup meeting, said the State Government is contributing more than $15,000 through the Victorian Racing Industry Fund to support the annual event, with a further $2000 spent on improvements to existing horse stalls in January. Harness racing brings many benefits and jobs to the region and this upgrade to the horse stalls will help to ensure the safety and wellbeing of horses and staff, she said.Licensed by Copyright Agency.
