North East $56m road fix

02 May 2018 Yarrawonga Chronicle, Yarrawonga VIC (General News) North East Victoria will receive $56 million for road maintenance as part of a $941 million regional package allocated in this years Victorian Government Budget. As part of the unprecedented road work blitz, urgently needed repairs will be carried out on sections of the Murray Valley Highway, Echuca- Kyabram Rd and the Midland Highway as well as dozens of other roads. Across the state more than 1000km of roads will be repaired, resurfaced or rebuilt. Its not just the key arterials that are set for an upgrade, local councils will be able to apply to the new $100 million Fixing Country Roads fund, to get the support they need to fix their local roads. Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said this was a massive investment in local roads. , It will see major upgrades, resurfacing and rebuilds across the north east giving our communities the roads they can rely on, Ms Symes said. Over the last 12 months weve seen an enormous amount of road work across the north east while there is always more to do and road works can be frustrating the Andrews Labor Government is investing in the roads regional communities need. To oversee this massive investment, the Labor Government will establish Regional Roads Victoria (RRV), a division of VicRoads, based in Ballarat, with staff in regional centres across the state. Led by a Chief Regional Roads Officer, RRV will have the sole focus of giving country communities roads they can rely on. The north east will also see important upgrades to vital connections the Kiewa Valley Highway, which will be upgraded between Wodonga and Mount Beauty to improve safety, travel times and freight productivity This enormous investment in country roads builds on the record breaking program of upgrades and maintenance carried out across Victoria, including Hume at Wallan and Euroa, the Goulburn Valley Highway at Yea and on Katamatite-Yarrawonga Road.Licensed by Copyright Agency.
