Labor is backing small businesses – making them even more welcoming to boost visitors, jobs and local economies. 

More than 35 multicultural business precincts across Victoria will get a facelift, including Benalla CBD Precinct, thanks to the Allan Labor Government. 

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes has announced Benalla Rural City Council will receive a $250,000 grant to transform the Benalla CBD into a vibrant, inclusive and story-rich environment.

The Seeing the Art in Everything revitalisation project will include street art bench seats, themed murals on key trader shop fronts, lighting and themed laneway decorations – promoting trader diversity, increased community pride and cohesion and attracting visitation.

The $6 million Multicultural Business Precinct Revitalisation Program has 37 council-led projects which will each receive up to $250,000 in government funding – with councils, business groups and traders working together to deliver the improvements and promote cultural diversity. 

Multicultural business precincts are the cornerstone of local economies and communities, providing unique places where people gather, shop, work and build cultural connections and friendships.  

Victoria is proudly home to more than 735,000 small businesses. Around 56 per cent of all small businesses are owned by people with at least one parent born overseas.
